Russian Children’s Centre Orlyonok

Interesting fact about "Olimpijsky" camp

Modern children's camps "Olimpijskij" and "Olimpijskaja Derevnya" were originally conceived as a single project. According to the idea of architects I.B. Malkova and M.A. Zotkina, the first building was erected in a picturesque place - on a plateau with a dense forest in the valley of Shirokaya.     The camp began to build in 1972. The walls were erected, all the external engineering networks were completed, and a transformer substation was commissioned. But due to lack of funding, the construction of the camp stopped. The body was destroyed by wind and precipitation, and it was called "Grafskie razvaliny".
In the late 90s, near the ruins, the construction of a new building called "Olympic" begins. Its opening took place on June 4, 2000.
The building, like all the previous buildings of the camps "Eaglet", looks like a ship. Arches, columns, open halls, galleries with high ceilings give its design an unusual lightness. But, perhaps, the most mysterious creation of architects is the square of stone flowers. The legend tells that they were grown up by good wizards, and if you touch the flowers and make a wish, then it will surely come true.
In 2003, the President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin visited the "Eaglet" and the "Olimpijskij" camp. After this visit, a decision was made to start the resumption of the construction of the "Olimpijskaya Derevnya" complex. The customer-developer of new objects is the Presidential Affairs Department of the Russian Federation, designs facilities for the camp St. Petersburg Zonal Research and Design Institute of Civil and Civil Buildings.
In the zone of long-term development, it was planned to build a new building of the camp "Olympijskaya Derevnya" (commissioned on June 27, 2012), a modern Antique Amphitheater for fifteen hundred seats (opened June 1, 2017) and a canteen (reconstructed in 2018).
In the future, the right wing of the Orlyonok will be built by the socio-cultural and educational centers, a large sports core, which will include an Olympic-style stadium, a small sports arena, and sports grounds.
