The Russian Children's Centre “Orlyonok” has joined the celebration of the International Friendship Day. The participants of the 8th camp session had an online meeting with their peers and educators from China, and recorded video greetings for campers from 12 countries.

Russian children celebrated the Friendship Day at “Orlyonok” on the 30th of July. 3,400 campers from all the regions of Russia took part in the festive events. Campers learned about the friendly traditions of different nations, created a recipe book and discussed the issue of long-distance friendship with their peers from other countries.

The Director of the Russian Children's Centre "Orlyonok"
Orlyonok is a territory of strong, warm and sincere friendship, born amidst camp events, that remains with campers forever. Here they live through the best moments of their youth, create and grow together, learn mutual understanding and support. Therefore, the Friendship Day is one of the most important holidays for every Orlyonok camper. On the 30th of July, most of the events are dedicated to the international friendship, and I think this is wonderful: we need to remember that, regardless of borders and distance, we can be like-minded, reliable and sincere friends, open to each other. And then friendship will save the world!

The festive day began with a radio broadcast, which was recorded by the Orlyonok campers themselves. The campers told about the history of the International Friendship Day and its significance in the modern world. Boys and girls greeted and congratulated their peers from all the camps of the Centre during the live broadcast.

During the day, the participants of the 8th camp session consolidated international friendshipThe campers recorded video greetings to camps from other countries and organizations in 12 countries: Belarus, Canada, the USA, Venezuela, Greece, Kazakhstan, Mexico, China, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Mongolia and France. In addition, as part of the “Post of friendship” campaign, the campers wrote letters to children from different parts of the world.

At the Russian-Chinese Centre for Cultural and Linguistic Exchanges at “Orlyonok”, the campers took part in an online meeting with educators from China, where they discussed the meaning of friendship in our countries, learned how to craft Chinese-style postcards, lanterns and masks. They learned songs in Chinese and also went on a virtual trip to China.

During the educational workshop “Tastes of Friendship”, campers shared recipes for their favorite national dishes, which were included in the "Orlyonok Book of National Recipes". Also on this day, the Orlyonok campers participated in the thematic games, an evening of songs and watched movies about friendship. The Day ended with the warm evening gatherings.

International Day of Friendship is celebrated annually on July, 3. It was proclaimed on the 3th of May in 2011 by the UN General Assembly in order to help people of different religions and cultures find a common ground, downsize distrust and eliminate conflicts, because friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire the efforts for peace keeping and gives the opportunity to build bridges between communities that respect cultural diversity.
