The board of the Russian Children’s Centre hosted an online meeting with the Chinese party on the establishment of the Russian-Chinese Centre for Cultural and Linguistic Exchanges at «Orlyonok».

The representatives of the Department of Education of the Embassy of China in Moscow and Center for Language Education and Cooperation of Ministry of Education of China in Beijing also joined the discussion.

The meeting began with the opening speech delivered by Andrey Melyakov, First Deputy Director of the Russian Children’s Centre «Orlyonok»:

«We would like to emphasize the moral correlation of our educational programme to the values of peace culture that have a long history at Orlyonok, and many traditions based on it. These values were reflected through the installment of the Pillar of Peace with the message «May Peace Prevail on Earth» in 1992 Thus, the upcoming events and activities at the Russian-Chinese Centre will involve a significant ethnocultural component: with the spirit of strengthening the Russian- Chinese relations and in the atmosphere of the Chinese national flair».

Collaborative educational programme is aimed at deepening the knowledge of the Russian youth about China, introducing them to the rich national traditions, language and cultural heritage objects. Hence, the key directions of this partnership will be educational classes and workshops, meetings and internships (including in- person ones) that will help children of both countries get a better perception of the each other’s cultures, learn the Chinese and Russian languages and, of course, find new friends.

«The creation of the Russian-Chinese Centre is a highly important event for the development of the cooperation between China and Russia in the sphere of education. I believe, the further collaboration will prove to be even more successful and contribute more to the development of the Chinese-Russian partnership and friendship between generations of Russia and China. The Embassy of China in Russia is ready to support every such endeavor», commented Cao Shihai, the Head of Educational Department of the Embassy of China in Moscow.

The territory of the Russian-Chinese Centre will cover 206,5 m² and consist of 5 thematic platforms: tea ceremony zone, calligraphy and guiling, lounge zone and two game zones that can transform into study zones. The special design features will become the national Chinese styles and traditional interior items that will help campers to feel the cultural context of the country.

«Orlyonok» has been an active contributor to the Russian-Chinese relations since 2008 Within the cooperation between Ministries of Education of Russia and China, a number of significant co-joint events have taken place at «Orlyonok». In 2008, a Russian-Chinese camp session for 200 children who suffered from the earthquake in the Sichuan province was implemented at «Orlyonok». Together with the children, Liu Guchang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Russia, visited the Centre. In 2016 a Russian- Chinese camp session with 100 campers from China and representatives of the Ministry Education of China took place. Before the restrictive measures due to the pandemic were taken, campers from China regularly took part in Orlyonok international camp session.
