Counselors of Orlyonok celebrated the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
The Russian Children's Centre Orlyonok celebrated the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The holiday was attended by more than 200 university and college students from 39 regions of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The day started with warm-up activities on Zvyozdnaya Square, where the counselors were doing exercises with balls, symbolizing the globe.
“Orlyonok supports the policy of good-neighbourliness, cultural exchange, friendship and mutual respect. For many years we have been cooperating with children's centres and camps from Russia, and foreign countries implementing joint international projects that unite children and adults of different cultures. This kind of work is one of the most important in the modern world,“ Director of the Russian Children’s Centre Orlyonok Alexander Dzheus commented.
The celebration continued with a thematic assembly. The Republican Educational and Health Centre Baldauren (the Republic of Kazakhstan) and the International Children's Centre Nayramdal (the Mongolian People's Republic) gave their congratulations video on the holiday to the Orlyonok campers.
The counselors of the National Children’s Educational and Health Centre Zubryonok (Republic of Belarus), who undergo advanced training until 27 May in Orlyonok, also congratulated the Centre with words of gratitude.
“We are pleased to be here on such a day. It is very important to keep the connection between nations and to hold the atmosphere that lights the spark in the eyes of educators and children. You don’t feel any difference in Orlyonok. Only cultural unity and endless friendship,” Natalia Bogdya, educator of Zubryonok, shared her impressions.
In conclusion of the assembly, counselors became participants of a flesh mob. Standing on a huge map of Russia, campers raised flags with the names of the cities they come from demonstrating friendship of cultures and regions.
In the end, there was a series of thematic workshops. Counselors visited classes such as: Language Animation, Music Unites us, Your Opportunities, Why Do You Think So Or Stereotypes In Our Lives, Cuisine Worldwide. They learnt about educational games, spoke English, German and Spanish, talked about ethnic stereotypes, and tasted national dishes.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was adopted on 21 May 2002 by the United Nations General Assembly. It is aimed at strengthening friendly relations between different peoples and support of cultural values and diversity at the local, national and international levels.
