“Orlyonok” celebrates the International Youth Day
More than 3000 Orlyonok campers took part in the events dedicated to the International Youth Day.
This year theme is “Transforming Education”, which highlights the efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible for all the youth.
During the day the campers discussed possibilities of the development of children’s creative and intellectual potential, the accessibility of education today, the value of knowledge in modern world and the roles of young people in everyday life of the country.
“The younger generation is the future of the world”, says Aleksander Dzheus, “Orlyonok” Director. “Boys and girls fulfill their potential in different fields: sports, politics, science, medicine, education. They solve tasks of any difficulty level, continuing the work of their predecessors. Optimism, bravery, ability to make right decisions on the spot and work hard, endless pursuit of self-improvement are their distinctive qualities. That’s what helps any country to develop and become better”.
To celebrate the day many various events, meetings and discussions took place at the Russian Children’s Centre. The game called “The team” showed the efficiency of the cooperation between campers and counselors. The counselors helped children with athletic challenges, while taking an active part in them too.
The key event of the day was the motivational session called “The Legacy of the Youth”. The speakers were: Lyudmila Spirina, “Orlyonok” Deputy Director and the “Professional start-ups” project leader, Elena Verbitskaya, Tuapse regional election commission chairman, Karen Gasparyan, Tuapse Youth Council chairman, and Victor “Happy” Sergeev, an activist and volunteer.
The participants talked about various ways of acquiring education, about learning opportunities young people have, about democratic election system and the youth role in the election process. “Orlyonok” campers discussed with the speakers many issues they cared about: the importance of choosing a future career, the relevancy of military education and humane studies, the development of urban science, the ways of ensuring inclusive and equitable education for people with disabilities. Boys and girls learned how to convince parents of their choices and to develop student governments at school.
“I’d like to thank “Orlyonok” for such a gift for the International Youth Day. The motivational session taught me how to develop my potential, it inspired me to keep going towards my goal and get better at the field I’d chosen”, shares Vladislav Nenashev, the 9th session camper from Severodvinsk. “In the future I want to become a journalist and I can already get skills needed for the job”.
12 August was designated International Youth Day by the UN General Assembly in 1999, and serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of challenges the youth is facing today worldwide.
